Dave Tucker began his musical career at the young age of three. Through his musical activities, perseverance, achievements and countless hours of hard work, he has been able to endure and perform with the world’s top performers.
Mr. Tucker came from a very musical family. Not only did his Dad play drums, but so did his grandfather, while his mother played piano. At a very young age, Dave studied with Pat Hoffman - a prominent teacher in the Baltimore area who was also his Godfather and name sake.
Following high school, Dave attended the Naval School of Music at Little Creek, Virginia, where he studied with Mike Sheppard.. Dave was later assigned to the Navy Show Band in San Diego, California. Following his discharge, Dave returned to New York City where he studied with the great drummer Ed Shaughnessy of the Tonight Show Band.
Dave next moved to Los Angeles in 1978 with his wife, Kathi. For the next 13 years, his career included studio sessions, live performances and several major tours with Columbia Artists.
In 1991, Dave moved back to Baltimore to further pursue his musical career. He is in high demand for studio recording sessions and club dates. Mr. Tucker also has and continues to work extensively with the Zim Zemeral Orchestra, The Baltimore Jazz Orchestra, The George Hipp Big Band, Mr. Hank Levy, The Richard Roeder - Glen Cashman Sextet, singer John Signorello, The Capital Saxophone Quartet, and pianist Jessica Williams. In 2002, Dave undertook his next musical challenge by forming “The New Big Band.” Comprised of some of the Baltimore/Washington area’s greatest musicians, his band received outstanding reviews for their first performance, a tribute to the late Buddy Rich.
Recently, The New Big Band has finalized a CD titled “Better Days Ahead” featuring lead trumpet John Blont. The CD is now available on the Sea Breeze Jazz Label and can be purchased by clicking here or here.
